The native Texan found his passion for performance in high school during a drama class. He channelled his creative energies while at Southern Methodist University and an open mic night at a local college bar where he performed Willie Nelson covers to great fanfare. It wasn't long before Ingram was picked up by indie label, Rising Tide, and he put out his self-titled debut in 1995. Jack Ingram toured and performed at concerts throughout the rest of '90s, but didn't quite find any commercial success. The label eventfully went out of business, but Ingram found a home at Sony's Lucky Dog imprint which released his album, Electric, in 2002. However, he was soon dropped from the label and from his management deal.

He capped off the success with a win for Best New Male Vocalist at the ACM Awards in 2008 which was the culmination of over a decade of hard work and perseverance.
